OMG – Can you believe it?!
Today the police took an old man into custody from a DNA match that matches his to the Golden State Killer and he was TOTALLY UNKNOWN to them until less than a week ago — wtf – wow

They must have had a tip from someone because what would possess them to go get throwaway DNA from some old man. I hope that all of the attention that Michelle McNamara has brought to this case made someone come forward. So here is what they are reporting so far. Joseph James DeAngelo Jr, 72 years old and a former police officer was arrested based on a DNA match from throwaway DNA.
So someone HAD TO HAVE TOLD THEM to follow this old grandpa around right?
A lot of people always thought the killer lived in the area because he could get in and out of areas so easily and they leaned toward military for the efficiency of how he killed and how he got into and out of houses. And the boot prints and good gun skills also leaned toward military. Some people thought construction because of the new houses in the areas and it would explain the variety of locations but really when you look at it, COP MAKES SENSE. And of course, cops don’t want to automatically say “sounds like a cop” but I am sure some of them thought it.
It must be such a relief for the families that he is caught and of course, now they may have to go through a trial (or more than one trial) but it will be well worth it and while this killer is having a moment in the news, we should put our thoughts and prayers into all the victims and their families. Some of his rape victims have lived looking over their shoulder for over 40 years. Hopefully they can sleep like babies tonight 🙂
UPDATE — So they used Private DNA databases — like you sign up for to get details on where you ancestors came from — and matched him there.
