So Kilauea did in fact erupt last night prompting evacuations in some nearby areas. Sad really because there are some parts of the Big Island where people struggle to get by (and really a lot of places in Hawaii that people would not expect but since we lived there for 3 years and I rented houses, I am more than familiar with how hard life can be for some people in Hawaii — not really something tourists see or know) And it isn’t like they are going to get to go back soon — or maybe ever. That house might be GONE or the road might be so it is really just a sad, stressful time for anyone involved. I was looking at the Leilani Estates neighborhood online and there are lots of houses for sale and a bunch of them are foreclosures so it makes me wonder if people already just abandoned some of them to start fresh somewhere else. Something to keep an eye on for everyone as there does seem to be a dramatic increase in seismic activity the last few months.
