Is eBay dying? Well I sure hope it isn’t but it might be if you count dying a slow death. eBay are failing to fix and maintain a lot of nuisance bugs (like their cutesy stupid emails with cutesy titles telling you the wrong information, like how many you have available) What do I mean by this? Well eBay’s emails are a perfect example. If you have an item where you have say 5 available and you have sold 10, it will email you (in a barf inducing cutesy email) that you have sold one and now have 15 available for sale. That isn’t true and most sellers who have looked once or twice realize it is a glitch but the problem is actually there.
eBay do not focus on fixing glitches and small things that are annoying. They focus on big broad sweeping projects, like “let’s do a buy these together package like Amazon” or let’s make all our sellers take free returns if they want to keep top rated. Both of these ideas are a bit dumb because buyers know things that go together, they can do that themselves and sellers who are top rated should be looked at as allies as they are bringing eBay the dollars without the headaches because they have certain metrics to maintain, you shouldn’t force them to do anything. But that said, here is the issue with the email being incorrect. It looks like a nothing thing, right? Sure, it probably actually does not take a whole lot of coding to fix it, but since eBay don’t care to fix it, it sits there stagnant and making them look dumb. And then the next little thing doesn’t work and they don’t fix that. All of these things add up and eBay should be more into fixing them because lots of little broken things are not good for functioning of your site.
Just my thoughts but it is like a house. If you don’t fix a leaky faucet, it really isn’t a big deal until it gets worse and by then, the paint is peeling and well, ok, leave that. And if you just don’t feel like to taking the trash out, skip that. And pretty soon, you don’t have a house because it is a rotting, festering, wet mess of trash so I really would like to see eBay STOP doing all these giant projects for a bit and clean up the trash a bit and fix the bugs and glitches and then they can go back to it and I am sure people would be a lot of open to it than they are now where it is a daily event of long down times where they cannot pay 🙁
