John McCain will be remembered for so many things but one of the things I have always liked about him is that he seems like he can relate to regular people. My husband was in the service for a very long time and I met a lot of military people, some high ranking, some not, some brilliant, some not. John McCain made me think a regular guy can become senator. Sure, he had great military men in his family but he seemed like a regular guy who didn’t like to read flight manuals and sometimes like to wing it. When I saw his memorial at the National POW museum, it made me think if this would define him and I hoped it would not, but in some ways I guess it will.
I hope he rests as peacefully and gracefully as he lived and I hope that the warriors of past welcome him with open arms and a drink and some fun as he enters Valhalla. Rest easy, John McCain.
